Oh, Charles…
For a long, long time now I’ve been thinking about this very moment. We’ve all had a long time to think about Chuck’s demise, how cancer and dying and loss and grief has shaped us, or would shape us, but I only knew for sure about a few things to say. The rest would have to come after he passed. Fortunately, out of all of this arose Chuck’s theme of “peace,” which has been a kind of binding, healing salve to help us move forward, to talk about him and us peacefully. So here we are, much clearer now that the dying is over and new life is beginning. I celebrate Chuck.
